Some background: the album (and yes, "album" is correct, for all you people under 35 years old - an album is a collection of songs) is divided into 2 sections (like an old "record"), The Love of Politics and The Politics of Love. Part One is about my continuing awakening to the realities of modern politics. I've been an avid politico most of my life - I campaigned, passed out leaflets, canvassed for opinions, manned phones, etc. I bought into the system, I believed. I no longer believe in the left vs. right, Liberal vs. Conservative, Democrat vs. Republican theater that is paraded across the mainstream media (MSM). No matter what your ideological slant, I believe there is no political party that represents those views - both parties are owned by the same people, the same powerful lobby/banking interests... the people that essentially run the world. As you read the lyrics to each song from 1 thru 7, you will notice a metamorphosis of belief - from grass-roots optimism, to outrage over immoral tactics and unethical allegiances, to... some understanding and acceptance of some heavily-obfuscated realities. In a nutshell, I couldn't keep my mouth shut on this one. : ) The first 7 songs here are no attempt to sway anyone's opinion on the validity of our political system (although I wouldn't be disappointed if it did.) I am simply chronicling my own experiences and conclusions. All in all, the music is the medium, and despite what your own political angle may be, I hope you enjoy that end of it. I spent a good part of the last 4 years writing and recording this project, and I sincerely hope it doesn't disappoint. Part Two is the standard, love-driven prose that most of my fans have come to expect from me, and I assure you I will always be capable of that approach. As always, there is no single marketable style here, because I simply enjoy creating too many types of music to limit myself to one particular radio format. This makes me feel like more of an artist when I'm creating, and more of a commercial disaster when promo men tell me how unmarketable I am. : ) - RDM |
